(L to R) Asst. Chief Julie Downey, Chief Joe Montopoli,
FF/PM Jason Owen, Dr. Nabil El Sanadi
Recently, Davie Fire Rescue Firefighter/Paramedic (FF/PM) Jason Owen was recognized at the Broward General Medical Center for his exceptional service and commitment to our community.
While off-duty having dinner with his wife, FF/PM Owen noticed a commotion at a table next to them. He went over to the table and found an elderly gentleman with a complete airway obstruction. FF/PM Owen quickly began performing abdominal thrusts; it took approximately 10-12 thrusts to finally dislodge the obstruction blocking the victim’s airway. Afterwards, FF/PM Owen assessed the patient and found that he was breathing fine. The patient was then able to continue the celebration with his family.
The Town Davie and Davie Fire Rescue Department commend FF/PM Owen for his quick response in performing this life-saving maneuver. “I am proud to have Jason on our Department. His efforts exemplify the spirit of Davie Fire Rescue,” stated Chief Joe Montopoli.
The residents of Davie are fortunate to have FF/PM Jason Owen serving them. Caring for the welfare of others is a vocation—it is a lifestyle. Owen has demonstrated that he is committed to our community whether on or off duty.
